AI product colorways for ecommerce catalogs
AI product colorways in Retouch Less Variants take one master product photo and target swatches, then generate catalog variants anchored to the master geometry. You build a master × color matrix, choose web or print output, run flex for interactive review or batch for volume, and approve outputs after structural checks.
Who this is for
Fashion apparel, home textiles (curtains, voilage, upholstery, bouclé, linen), and hardware / tech finishes — anywhere the form should remain consistent while the color or material changes.
Marketing shorthand: Color · Material · Texture · Finish. Under the hood the engine knows finer verticals (curtains, apparel, footwear, furniture, hardgoods, cosmetics, jewelry, and more) so craft clauses can specialize when it helps.
The production workflow
- Import masters and swatches (folders / families).
- Brief — short operator intent; the system samples a small set of masters and swatches to propose craft notes (those stay admin-side).
- Matrix — every product × swatch pair you actually want to ship.
- Launch — flex for near-real-time review, or batch when you can wait up to a day for volume.
- Structure QC on the renders, then review, relancer with an affirmative correction, export.
One credit covers one 2K output; a 4K output uses two. The complete credit estimate shows before launch.
Flex vs batch (honest latency)
Flex is the interactive lane: outputs arrive one by one for review. Latency varies with output size, queue, and model service.
Batch is the volume lane: commit window up to 24 hours, built for large matrices you do not need on screen immediately.
Both use the same credit rule. The live estimate in the app is the source of truth.
Output intents
Web intent targets catalog grids and PDPs (~2K class). Print intent targets higher resolution (~4K class). Geometry still follows the master; only the delivery size changes.
Pick the intent that matches the channel. Do not upscale marketing claims past what you export.
Quality without self-congratulation
Local structure metrics are the default gate — edge, border, weave scale, pattern period, line deltas, color ΔE. They cost $0 in model calls.
An optional Flash judge can second-opinion a render. It is off by default because having the same family of models grade each other is a weak habit for structure. Prefer numbers on the plate.
When you still need a reshoot
New camera angles, new props, new model poses, or a product that physically changed still need a shoot.
Colorways, finish swaps, and “same fold, new swatch” are the automation zone. That is how you shoot less and still grow the matrix.
