Shoot less. Ship more. — Retouch Less product thesis
“Shoot less. Ship more.” means extract more sellable catalog assets from each studio day. Most SKU gaps after a shoot are colorway gaps or temporary defects — not missing concepts. Retouch Less attacks those two gaps: Variants expands the ecommerce matrix; Portrait clears the person.
The real cost of “one more coloris”
Studio time, talent, props, lighting resets, and a retouch queue compound fast. Merchandising still needs the sand, the sage, the terracotta — and the grid looks incomplete without them.
If the geometry of the hero plate is already right, rebooking the studio is the expensive way to change a swatch.
Two levers, one thesis
- Geometry-locked colorways — same fold, new material. One master becomes every valid variant.
- Portrait cleanup — temporary defects out, personality intact. The lifestyle frame can publish.
Hero language we use on purpose: SAME FOLD. ONE MASTER → EVERY SKU. Remove the defect. Keep the person.
Proof shape, not vanity metrics
On the product side we talk in matrices: masters in, variants out — for example a proof strip of many variants from fewer masters. Pay-as-you-go per image, total visible before launch.
What we do not claim: that AI replaces every reshoot, or that every textile is perfect every time. QC exists because production is messy.
When you still shoot
New angle. New prop story. New pose. New physical product.
Automation owns colorways and defect cleanup. Taste and photography still own the first strong plate. Shoot less does not mean shoot never — it means stop paying studio rates for problems that are now software.
